Hi, I’m Siobhán.
I’m a Birmingham-based Oral History Consultant and Audio Producer, and I’ve spent the better part of my career doing one thing: helping people tell their stories in their own voice.
My roots are in community radio. I learned my craft at a community station, building skills and confidence alongside peers who went on to do incredible things. That experience never left me. It’s where I first saw the power of giving someone a microphone and the space to speak.
I went on to complete a PhD in Media & Cultural Studies, focusing on how social gain policy works in practice within community radio environments. For over a decade I worked in academia, teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students and presenting research at national and international conferences. I continue to design, deliver and advise on media courses at several universities across the UK.
Today I bring all of that together — the academic rigour, the production experience, the community instincts — to work with heritage organisations, charities, universities and community groups who want to capture, preserve and share the stories that matter most to them.
What drives me
I genuinely believe that everyone has a story worth telling — and that the stories of ordinary people are often the most extraordinary. What gets me out of bed in the morning is the moment someone listens back to their own voice and realises that what they have to say matters. I’ve seen it happen hundreds of times, and it never gets old.
I’m also deeply interested in what happens when communities get to represent themselves — in their own words, on their own terms. That’s what oral history does at its best. That’s what good community radio does. And it’s what I try to bring to every project I work on.
Outside of work, I’m a passionate advocate for accessible media and digital literacy. I believe that learning to tell your own story — whether through audio, podcast or oral history — is one of the most powerful skills anyone can develop. I’m proud to have helped hundreds of people do exactly that.
